World Industrial Design Day, 29th June 2013

World Industrial Design Day is happening this weekend on 29 June 2013. This is an open day to engage design professionals and enthusiasts in exploring their creative vision and passion in recognition of the role of industrial design and designers in our society. The idea is to promote awareness of the industrial design profession, highlighting the contribution its designers and academics make to the discipline, to societies, to economies and quality of life throughout the world. For suggestions on how to celebrate the day and for more information, visit the ICSID website.

Think of all the objects you interact with on a daily basis. Now think about how they affect your daily life. From products to services, industrial design is everywhere. All the things we use in our daily life are entwined with design – what you see, hold, listen to, smell, touch and experience. Often we don’t stop to think about this. On World Industrial Design Day 2013, join in highlighting the impact of industrial design. Design is about aesthetics, form and function but it is so much more. Communities can be regenerated, fed, housed, supported, through design. Sustainable design has the power to delay and even prevent further damage to our fragile planet.

There are many ways to celebrate World Industrial Design Day; events such as sustainability workshops, exhibitions, international symposiums on socially responsible design, webcasts, free admission to museums to name but a few.

See what events are being planned in your region for World Industrial Design Day 2013.
