I never give up an opportunity to get some great pictures! I was hosting a table of the wonderful volunteers for my diabetes charity on Sunday at the magnificent Longview Winery an Aust Bridal Industry Award Winner with heaps of rustic charm in the Adelaide Hills. It is not really my scene and I am usually running around working the silent auctions at these things, but this place offered me a special opportunity to take some pictures to share a little piece of heaven with you all. Winner of multiple awards for their wines, they have just won ”Best Ceremony Venue and Best Reception Venue” at the Australian Bridal Industry Awards and I can see why.
Longview is a stunning family owned Australian vineyard located just outside the historic township of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills.”Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of classic old world estates” this beautiful winery has quickly established itself as one the most awarded vineyards in the region since its first vintage in 2001. It really had that rustic olde world feel and a warm vibe that made me feel totally at home.
Brothers Peter and Mark Saturno who own the winery told us their story at the event. They wanted a change from the big city lifestyle of New York City and decided they were ready to move back to their home South Australia to “take on the challenge of producing the kind of premium, cool climate wines they had developed a passion for whilst abroad.”
It is a family affair with their sister, mother and father all being involved and with help from dedicated vineyard staff, they are working towards further success while “never forgetting the fundamentals of past achievements.”
Longview Vineyard is a little warmer than other Adelaide Hills’ sites – the weather on Sunday was divine with an afternoon breeze cooling us all from the early warmth. The boys say their wines are still very much cool climate in style “showing restraint and finesse without sacrificing depth”. My husband certainly enjoyed the wines on offer on the day!
They not only offer award winning wines, but are well known for their Sunday tapas, gorgeous 4 star accommodation, which includes the Homestead and Apartments, breathtaking views from the cellar door, and a most sought after function centre. I am very keen to head back to check out the accommodation.
Longview Vineyard is more than just a premium wine producer: it is one of the most impressive wine tourism destinations in South Australia and the ‘Pick of the Adelaide Hills’.
