After my post on Facebook sharing Maxwell’s ordinary, unstyled room went crazy the other day, I have started a movement – the #realhomesmovement! It has currently got nearly 200,000 people who have seen the post, and hundreds of shares and comments. People are talking about how relieved they are to see an everyday home, rather than one that is styled to meet the expectations of trends and social media. When I started Recycled Interiors, my aims were always to help you create a home you love, that is better for you and our planet. It is all about healthy planet, healthy people, healthy home. This has reminded me of what matters and the way forward in terms of focus for our Recycled Interiors community. Stay tuned for lots of exciting things!
So what is the #realhomesmovement?
We are on a mission to stop fast interiors fashion, encourage slow homes & time spent living in them rather than making them look like a magazine, refuse consumption of unethical, poorly made items & increase sustainable living, celebrate diversity & your own style, connect more with each other, & reject trends. We want you to stop comparing, don’t judge each other, #dropthemumguilt & love where you live. We want you to stop worrying about what other people think about your home and more about what you can do to be happier, healthier & create a home you love that’s better for you, your family and our planet.
This is about loving good design and quality, ethically made item. It is about sustainability and how we can all have an impact. It is about vintage and DIY, designing your own life and loving the house you are in. It is about celebrating your loved ones and worrying less about whether your bedroom needs a “refresh” or not. Life is short, our homes are something to be treasured but our people are the most important thing. In this terror filled world we must take a stand and say no to being swayed by big brand pushes to look a certain way – whether that be in ourselves or our homes.
Watch this house tour I did at our place on Facebook Live, talking about the movement and how to get involved. You can Join the #realhomesmovement here
I would love to hear your thoughts so please drop them below – this is a live streamed video so the quality is not high, but the messages certainly are 🙂
