How to upcycle a lampshade with vintage sheet music

There is just something about vintage sheet music, paper and maps, they work so well for decoupage projects, craft and art. There is something about old music sheets in particular that are very beautiful, would you agree? Those notes and scripts just dance across the page and create a stunning accent in your decorating, and can be used to upcycle cupboards, tables and lampshades. You can even simply mount and frame them for unique artworks. So we have a fabulous guest video from Patturn Studio, taking you through how to upcycle a lampshade with vintage music sheets.

Music has such strong feelings and emotions attached for all of us. As a child I learnt to play the piano and actually went quite far with this, as well as learning the guitar and taking singing lessons, even into my adulthood. Music is very important to your welbeing and should be part of everyone’s home. I remember growing up with my dad playing records every night – Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, The Carpenters and so much more. Music forms part of so many special times in our lives. Just think about how important choosing your wedding music is, or the memories of the songs you sang your babies, or the life changing tracks of your teenage years. Music can heal us, soothe us, excite us and bring us together. It also adds greatly to your home and how you live in it. What better way to do the housework than with the music blasting!

Lamps create a softness in your home and are far nicer than a harsh overhead light for quiet, cosy evenings at home. The very clever Patturn Studio puts music and lamps together and creates hand crafted lamp shade & lighting designs, featuring lacquered papers. She uses a range of papers such as old maps as well. These are stunning and unique styles which bring vintage papers into the light.

Oops Recycled Interiors – that’s s German sewing pattern lamp… but paper is paper, they’ll get the idea!! ; )

  5. Patturn on December 10, 2014 at 7:47 pm

Yes Sharon Haydon – Recycled Interiors is quite right. The most important thing is using a standard lampshade as your base. They come with the heat-resistant plastic inner layer so the paper outer layer never heats up at all. Perfectly safe, I’ve made over 300 of these shades by now!! And as you can imagine I have many in my own home : )
